Daily Life on the Farm

This has been my daily life of taking care of the farm animals and the garden.

Yesterday, I cut more grass with the lawn mower and raked it up for the farm animals. I am finding all kinds of weeds to cut and pull for these animals. I am still feeding bread from the bakery daily to the farm animals.

I found what I call a mother load of eggs as I was weeding today, 22 in total. I did the water method test to determine if they were good to eat. The water method is explained here:

All were good, so I cleaned them up and put them in the fridge. Yum!

I did plant 24 green bean seeds. I planted them in a tray and put it outside on my patio where it gets part shade. I will keep it moist until they grow enough to fend for themselves out in the hot garden. Still no rain. The pond is now dangerously low.

One of my hens hatched some eggs. There were 7 chicks. So cute!

My husband is still busy digging out the pond. The cows are going to love having access to the pond when we rotate them through the different pastures! We can't wait to have access to more water!

And we definitely could use more water. As I was walking through the pasture I could feel and hear the crinkle of  the dry grass under my footsteps. Some areas of the pastures are turning brown.

Yesterday, we did buy a few more rolls of hay. We paid $45 a roll, which is on the cheaper end of what hay has been going for. We are trying to stock up on hay when we find it a little cheaper. We will be feeding hay sooner than normal because of this drought.

May our daily lives of homesteading keep us motivated and hopeful for the future!
