Cow Chute Practice

One of my goals this month is to sell the steer. My goal is to sale him at the sale barn on July 15. To get him to the sale barn, I will have to get him loaded up in the stock trailer. To get him in the stock trailer, I need him to go through the cow chute.

He needs practice going through the chute, so that he feels comfortable and it is not anxiety producing for him or us. The chute is in the middle of 2 animal corrals. I closed one side of the corral and left the other corral open. I put feed in the cow trough. To get to the feed, the cows must go through the chute. I got him through the chute with little effort yesterday. I will do this everyday from now until the day we load him up. He needs to become at ease with this process.

Yesterday, I spent the majority of the day watering the pastures. I am just trying to get enough water on the grasses in the pasture to keep them growing as long as possible. The farm animals are dependent on them for survival.

We did make time to go to Tractor Supply to stock up on their Veteran's 15% discount on July 4th. We bought dog food for the farm dogs, veterinarian supplies, salt blocks, and a pellet of 13% all stock.

We came home and wormed the cows and moved the goats from the goat pasture to the farm tour area to graze on some new grass.

We did manage to grill some thick steaks for supper. We were so tired that we fell asleep early. May we all have time for relaxation after a day of hard work and feel grateful for what we do have!
