It is Thanksgiving morning and for
the first time in my life, I do not have a lot of company coming over to share
a meal at my home. I had actually celebrated Thanksgiving a couple of weekends
ago when both of my grown children were home. We had a big dinner of turkey,
ham, rolls, pies and all the traditional side items. I was indeed very thankful
to have them both home at the same time.
This morning I sip coffee and enjoy
a warm bowl of cream of wheat with my husband. I have some chores to do around the farm and
some writing to complete before sunset, but I have a lot to be thankful for; I
have a hot meal in the oven roasting, farm animals outside contently munching
their own breakfast, a sunny fall day full of possibilities, and family and
friends safe and warm.
As time marches on different stages in our
lives appear and we transition into it all the while knowing that this too is
only temporary. Now that both kids are out on their own and able to pay their
own way, we can spread our own wings a little bit now, and try things we have
often talked about when the kids were little and still at home with us. I feel
like a pioneer woman back in the mid 1800s leaving the comforts of my home and
venturing out to the open frontier to see what possibilities await and what
adventures lies ahead of me. I hope you too feel that pioneer spirit no matter
what stage of life you are in and feel grateful for all that you have. Happy
Thanksgiving!
