“We’re concerned with
how things turn out; God seems more concerned with how we turn out.”- Philip Yancey
Yesterday I spent the
day with my children and their friends. As I visited with them I made homemade
pie crust, pumpkin pie, pecan pie, honey and wheat sourdough rolls and
crescent rolls. I had a nice day baking in preparation for today, Thanksgiving
Day.
This morning I put the
turkey and ham in the oven as my daughter made a chocolate pie. As the main
entrees are roasting in the oven I have time to sit a spell and relax. As most
of the other family members are still in bed, my thoughts turn to the next
upcoming holiday, Christmas. I am thinking about all of the homemade presents I
want to make before Christmas Eve.
One of the homemade
presents I have made so far this year is honey lip balm. After robbing
my honeybees this year I saved the bees wax for this project. This was the
first time I made my own lip balm. To tell you the truth it was quite easy.
1. I
made a double boiler apparatus by putting water in a sauce pan and a smaller
sauce pan on top of that. I then turn the stove on medium low.
2. I
then put the beeswax in the sauce pan and let it melt slowly.
3. Once
beeswax was all melted, I strained it.
4. I
then remelted it. I added olive oil. I used about 4 ounces of olive oil per 1
ounce of beeswax. I also added about 20 drops of mint extract. I did not add
any honey to this mixture because when I first melted the beeswax it still had
a bit of honey still clinging to the beeswax. I stirred this mixture for about
2 minutes until blended well.
5. I
then poured lip balm mixture immediately into containers I ordered from Bulk Apothecary. When lip balm is
completely cooled I covered with a lid.
All that is left to do
to this lip balm project is to design a beautiful label. I really enjoy this
lip balm. It is so delicious that I have to try not to lick my lips! It is a
nice natural homemade lip balm. I love it and I hope you can try out this
recipe!
