Freezing Strawberries

I recently received 10 pounds of strawberries. I have been eating them fresh straight from the fridge as well as using them in an old fashion strawberry shortcake, but I still have 4 pounds of strawberries left. Unfortunately, strawberries do not keep for a long time, so I decided to preserve them to use in future recipes by freezing them.
Freezing strawberries is a very easy task. I begin by washing the strawberries, cutting off the tops of the strawberries, and slicing them in half.

I place them in a large bowl and add ¾ cup of sugar to each pound of strawberries that I am freezing. I make sure to stir the sugar in well so that each strawberry is evenly coated.

I let the strawberries stand for 15 minutes until most of the sugar is dissolved.

I pack the strawberries into plastic freezer bags in 1 pound amounts. I make sure to squeeze out the access air in the bag before sealing. I label the packages with the contents and date, and then place into the freezer.
