Making Homemade Powder Laundry Detergent

I had used the last bit of homemade liquid laundry detergent I had on hand right before we went on vacation. When we returned from vacation I had loads of laundry that needed to be washed. I was feeling a little bit tired and did not have time to whip up a new batch of liquid laundry detergent so, I decided to mix the same ingredients I use in my normal homemade laundry detergent without adding water to the mixture.

Ingredients and Utensils needed to Make Powder Laundry Detergent

Powder Laundry Detergent

1 bar of soap

1 cup of washing soda

1 cup of borax

To make the laundry detergent I first grated the bar of soap by using a cheese grater.

Then mix these soap shavings with one cup of washing soda and one cup of borax. I store this laundry detergent in a large empty coffee container along with a tablespoon measuring spoon.  I use two tablespoons of this powder laundry detergent for each load of laundry. I made two batches of this powder laundry detergent.

The homemade powder laundry detergent cleans as well as the liquid laundry detergent.  I will continue to use this homemade laundry detergent in powder form because it is so much faster to make and is very frugal.
