Catterpillars On My Peach Trees!

Peach-eating Caterpillars
I was out in the garden a few days ago and noticed several big white cocoon- like structures in the branches of my peach trees. Upon closer observation I noticed there were caterpillars crawling everywhere! After googling what could these caterpillars be, I found out they were tent caterpillars and they were after my peaches!

The Tent Caterpillar
I do not like to use pesticides so I decided to burn those little caterpillars. I got my ladder, propane torch and a trusty large metal stick to get at the cocoon of the caterpillar. I got busy burning up those little peach-eating caterpillars. Boy they could move fast! The ones that were high up in the peach tree I just knocked down with my metal stick. I called the chickens in my garden to see if they would eat the caterpillars. The chickens just stood at the garden gate not even daring to enter. So I decided to take the caterpillars to them by scooping them up with my shovel. But the chickens just looked at the caterpillars and walked away! So I had no choice but to continue to burn.

My Caterpillar Fighting Tools
I thought I did a pretty good job getting rid of them. But the next day they had invited some friends and rebuilt their little tents. I was tired of messing with germy, crawling, hairy, peach-eating caterpillars so I called in the big gun, my husband. He got out his propane torch, which is a lot bigger than mine and blasted those little darlings to kingdom come. Needless to say, the next day there was no more peach-eating caterpillars on my peach trees.
